Anti-Aging Cosmetic Medicine – Facial Rejuvenation

Anti-Aging Cosmetic Medicine – Facial Rejuvenation

Don’t let aging get you down!

There are many ways to erase the signs of aging using a variety of facial rejuvenation techniques performed by either a board certified plastic surgeon or dermatologist, or a trained member of the staff at a Medical Spa.

From quick, lunch time chemical peels to full fledged facelifts, there are many tools in the doctor’s bag for warding off wrinkles, age spots and keeping you looking young.

Different techniques provide different levels of treatment, downtime and results. The more complex the treatment, the more qualified your practitioner should be.

Always keep in mind that in the realm of cosmetic medicine, hungry demand has led to unqualified practitioners opening unsafe operations in unregulated areas. First and foremost you should be very selective when shopping for a practitioner

Beyond that, it also helps to know a little bit about what options are available so you can better choose what is most appropriate for you.

To help you navigate the maze of options, I have compiled this list of facial rejuvenation techniques currently popular. I made the list in descending order of complexity.

Facelift: Facelifts are always popular, for good reason. A well-done, extensive facelift can knock ten or twenty years off your appearance. A less drastic facelift lift can refresh your look considerably and soften wrinkles. A quality facelift will not appear tight or unnatural.

One thing that may surprise you is that many people who think they need a face lift would actually be better off with a simpler, less costly eye lift, brow lift or some form of skin-resurfacing treatment.

Forehead and Brow Lifts: Not as complete as a facelift, a forehead or brow lift can still take years off the appearance your face.   As the name implies, a forehead, brow lift, or an upper eyelid lift will correct deep forehead wrinkles, as well as horizontal and vertical facial lines.   Many people who at first think they need a complete facelift will be surprised to learn that one of these smaller procedures will often give the results they seek.

Eyelid Surgery: Technically called a Blepharoplasty, eyelid surgery restores your youthful gaze by eliminating sagging, loose, wrinkled skin around the eyes. For most of us, the eyes are one of the first and most deeply affected area of the face. Since eyes are also the focal point of the face, this deterioration can be quite distressing. Fortunately, it is also quite easy for a competent surgeon to fix. Often, an eyelift is quite enough to totally freshen the entire face.

SURGERY MAY NOT EVEN BE NECESSARY

Depending on your age and the condition of your skin and underlying facial muscles, sometimes the best option is one of the many forms of skin resurfacing or rejuvenation, not surgery.

Skin resurfacing includes chemical peels, micro dermabrasion, and laser peels. All of these methods involve burning off and exfoliating the top layers of skin to reveal the smoother, more youthful layers below. Each individual method has its pros and cons. Each offers a different level of peel, for example lasers go deeper than dermabrasion and the results reflect that.

I always recommend that people start aggressive skin care early with low-intensity chemical peels in their 20’s and continue with higher intensity treatments like laser as they get older. This way, you’ll never look like you need it!

Using chemical peels and other resurfacing techniques is an ongoing process and also includes daily maintenance with sunscreen.

Injectable derma fillers and Botox are products that can help lessen wrinkles. Derma fillers are inject able materials that plump up wrinkled areas and Botox relaxes the underlying muscles for a smoother look.

As you can see, there are many options to banish the signs of aging. Consult a Medical Spa run by a board certified plastic surgeon near you.
