How Vitamin C Keeps You Looking Younger

Vitamin C is one of those few vitamins that seems to have unlimited uses. Great for helping you get over a common cold, great for your teeth, bones, hair and eyes, and also great for keeping your skin young and fresh.
Taking Vitamin C daily as part of a well balanced diet stimulates the body’s natural production of collagen. Collagen is a key protein that assists in keeping your skin flexible, thereby reducing the occurrence of wrinkles, stretch marks and general sagging of the skin. The older we get, the less collagen we are able to produce, so our bodies need a little help to get the collagen production going. Vitamin C is the boost our bodies need.
Many people suffer sun spots or age spots, which are dark spots that occur on the skin due to aging or exposure to the harmful ultra-violet rays of the sun. A serum made from Vitamin C will help diminish the look of existing dark spots and can also help protect your skin from future spots. The production of melanin, which is what the body uses to darken the skin, is reduced with Vitamin C, so it also helps with freckles.
Vitamin C, when applied topically, has benefits for a variety of skin conditions, such as acne, blemishes and even fine lines, wrinkles and crows feet. It improves the elasticity of your skin, as well as clarifying trouble areas.
Vitamin C is found in a variety of common fruits and vegetables, most notably, apples and oranges. However, as with any vitamin, you should be careful not to overdo it. Too much of a good thing can have negative consequences, and Vitamin C is no different. Talk to your health care provider or nutritionist about the recommended daily amount of Vitamin C you should be consuming or absorbing daily.
