Proper skin care is not just about buying the body wash or facial soap with the prettiest label. Taking proper care of your skin starts with proper research to learn what is good for your skin and what is sabotaging your efforts. Read on to learn more about how to care for your skin.

You should limit the amount of sun exposure you get each day. If you’re going to be out in the sun for a prolonged period of time make sure you wear some type of protection. Prolonged sun exposure can lead to a variety of problems like premature wrinkles, sun burn, freckles, and even skin cancer.

If you don’t feel confident about how to take care of your skin, it’s worth a trip to one of the major department stores. Many reputable companies offer solid skin care lines, and the sales people will give you a free consultation about your skin type and will recommend products for you. If you choose to purchase their products, of course they will be grateful; but at the very least, you will walk away much better educated about what your skin needs, and can make smarter choices for your skin type.

Protect your skin from the sun. Too much sun exposure is one of the prime causes of premature wrinkles, freckles as well as age spots and even dry skin. In addition to these cosmetic problems, the sun can also seriously increase your risk of developing skin cancer. Although you should normally pick skin care products for your skin type, you may have been buying the wrong products for so long that your skin has become denatured. Start with a simple routine, a gentle, non-drying cleanser morning and night, toner if your skin is truly oily, and a moisturizer (again, unless you have very oily skin).
